Friends of Trees brings people in the Portland-Vancouver metro area together to plant and care for city trees and urban natural areas. Through our Neighborhood Trees program, homeowners buy low-cost trees and plant them with their neighbors at weekend plantings. Through our Natural Area Restoration program, trained crew leaders guide volunteers at weekend events to restore natural areas. Since 1989, our volunteers have planted more than 375,000 trees and native plants.
Sustainable Qualification Summary
At Friends of Trees, our commitment to sustainability goes beyond our planting activities. Our office, with plenty of bike parking, is located on a bus route to encourage not only our staff, but also our volunteers, project partners, and visitors to utilize alternative transportation. We process much of our stormwater on site, using a combination of an EcoRoof, a certified Rain Garden, and a very large cistern. Our office landscape is populated with native plants, ensuring a lush view with minimal input from us. We recycle what we can at curbside, we compost our food waste on-site, and have partnerships with several local businesses that allow us to recycle things like batteries and larger scrap metal. We are currently working on certification from the City of Portland's Recycle at Work Program, and hope to have that completed soon!
Green Certifications Friends of Trees is currently working towards certification in Portland's Recycle at Work Program.
