Clayhaus Ceramics Tiles: handmade and ultra stylish
Tile veterans launch new ceramic tile venture
Tile industry entrepreneurs Jason and Megan Coleman recently opened Clayhaus Ceramics, a handcrafted artisan tile company with a wide range of unique modern designs and vibrant colors. The company was founded in 2010 and officially launched in April when the switch was flipped on at www.clayhausceramics.com.
Clayhaus derives its name from the Bauhaus movement and its influences on modernist architecture and modern design-- an inspiration that shines clearly through the company's tile shapes and color offerings.
All Clayhaus products are 100% hand made from scratch in the company's studio in Portland, Oregon, using reclaimed clay content and lead-free glazes. Most glazes also contain 50% recycled bottle glass, in keeping with the Colemans' environmental ethic. Glazes are hand mixed from proprietary recipes.
Product offerings include a complete array of sheeted and loose field tile, as well as a growing collection of unique decorative relief tiles. The ever-expanding color palette includes more than 50 shades in Clayhaus Gloss, Clayhaus Crackle and Clayhaus Matte. In addition to its established product line, the company also encourages requests for custom shapes and colors, including color matching to paint chips, wall coverings, fabric swatches and other existing tile.
The company's founders, Jason and Megan Coleman, have nearly 20 years combined experience in the tile industry. Their previous company, Stardust Glass, enjoyed widespread acclaim within the design community.
Jason, the creative director and artisan, is a second-generation ceramicist whose parents, Tom and Elaine Coleman, are renowned as leaders of the ceramic arts movement of the 1960s and ‘70s. Jason's industry experience includes a stint making molds for architectural building facades, including the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, as well as an eight-year stint in production and sales with Pratt & Larson Tile & Stone.
Clayhaus Handmade Artisan Tile is available through a growing network of dealer showrooms across the U.S. as well as online. In addition to a wide assortment of field tile, Clayhaus offerings also include a series of decorative relief tiles such as the Topo Collection, created by designer Stephanie Dyer.
