Three Quick, Easy Tips to Rejuvenate Your Energy and Reduce Stress
As a healthcare practitioner, I strive to set a good example for my patients by living a balanced life and being mindful of my own health. A common complaint for many of my patients is "I'm tired and stressed out." This manifests very differently in each person: back aches, digestion troubles, sleep difficulties, menstrual irregularities, etc. The root cause for this complaint is very similar for most of my patients whether it's unfulfilling work, too much caffeine and lack of sleep, eating poorly, or being stretched too thin.
There are many ways to improve your health. Alternative modalities like acupuncture, herbal remedies, massage and supplements are very beneficial. But my patients often are curious about what they can do at home to maintain the effects of those modalities. I find that the more simple the routine is, the easier it is to implement in to your daily life.
Here are a few easy ways to help yourself beat the stress and maintain your energy:
1. Stretching in the morning - Time - 5-15min.
I do a yoga series called the sun salutation (or video). Your blood flow is increased, your breath is open, you are calm and centered for the day. Do as many as you like.
2. Dry Brushing - Time - 2 min.
This really energizes me! Gently brushing your dry skin with a natural bristle brush to exfoliate, stimulate the lymphatic system, and get your blood moving. I dry brush after my stretching in the morning.
3. End your shower on cold - 1 min.
Essential after dry brushing and particularlly wonderful in the morning. Just cold enough to give you goose bumps and so the skin feels taught.
After doing these 3 daily routines for more than a year, I can notice a huge difference in my energy. My mind is clear, my digestion is improved, my immune system is revitalized, and best of all, it allows me to set a good example for my patients as they seek balance in their life.
Please feel free to contact me with questions about the above tips, or about how acupuncture can help you!
