Homeopathic Relief from Allergies
Allergies can be beyond annoying and can make life difficult for the sufferer: from inability to enjoy outdoor activities, to not visiting friends with pets, or not eating certain foods.
A common myth is the assumption that the allergen (cat dander, pollen, peanut) is the problem. In actuality, the allergen is just the trigger for the reaction. Rather than treating superficial symptoms or avoiding the allergen, why not take action to strengthen and re-balance your body's own immune and defense system?
There are two approaches to treating allergies homeopathically:
- Constitutional care by a trained Homeopath addresses the whole person and can provide permanent relief over time. The best time to seek constitutional care for allergies is when the allergy season is past or symptoms are non-acute.
- Therapeutically for short-term relief of symptoms during the acute phase.
The important key is finding a remedy that matches the symptoms of the sufferer as closely as possible. Here are two examples:
Allium cepa (common onion) is a common homeopathic remedy for respiratory allergies. These include profuse runny nose, the discharge is burning, the nose feels raw and tingly, and possible violent sneezing. The eyes are red and itchy, with lots of bland (non-burning) tears. Symptoms are worse in a warm room and better in open air.
Euphrasia (eyebright, an herb) is the remedy for the opposite symptoms. These are profuse watery eyes and burning tears that irritate eyes and cheeks. The eye symptoms are worse in open air. The profuse bland nasal discharge is worse at night, while lying down, and in windy weather.
If individual remedies are not available or if you cannot find one to fit your symptoms, try one of the "homeopathic formula products" readily available in health food stores.
And don't forget to make your appointment with your homeopath for constitutional treatment and next year's allergy season will be easier.
