Local Limelight: Weeklyish Articles Of Interest
Less Mess. Less Stress. Better Life
By Jonathan Davis
The last time my mom spanked me was at the sassy age of 12 years old. It was close to the start of the school year and we were going through the closet and the drawers of clothes that I no longer wear or fit into. Apparently I wasn’t listening, so she stealthily gave me “what for!” In my family, ‘what for’ means either shape up or run because your tooshy is about to sting.
I learned my lesson, I started to listen, and a good pile of clothes for the Salvation Army was compiled. I remember feeling good since my living space was now organized and clean…or maybe it was because the sting of being spanked went away. Regardless, when I sat down and talked with Missy Gerber, the owner of Organizers Northwest about being a professional organizer.
Less Mess. Less Stress. Better Life. Organizers Northwest is a 5-person team of professional organizers with 2 handymen that are all trained consultants. Her dynamic team makes organizing one’s life fun and enjoyable. “We get great results and work with good people that are ready for change,” says Gerber. “We’re change management specialists.” I like the sound of that if I’m living in a clutter filled world when starting is the hardest part.
After an interview to learn where in your life the “destruction occurs” as Missy says, they create a system that is personalized to your needs to help you create a fluid flow of getting tasks done. After all, it’s “not about filing, it’s about retrieval.” This didn’t occur to me until she mentioned it; however, this makes perfect sense. For instance, if you’re looking for your insurance statement, where do you look for it? Is it filed alphabetically, is it filed with your monthly bills, or is it filed with your auto information? It is these types of systems that Missy and the team at Organizers Northwest are able to help you with.
One of their goals “is to pass onto you [their] knowledge and get the job done right the first time.” Many homeowners that are downsizing love their services as well as employees looking for an edge on their performance. Missy and her team after going through your stuff will reuse filing cabinets and shelves that have already been purchased in earlier attempts to organize yourself. Clothes, books, paint, cell phones, and more are donated and recycled to local organizations like the Community Warehouse or Woman’s Shelter so you’ll feel good that your trash is another person’s treasure. After all, if it is buried in a box, how important is it to you really?
Over time, we start to accumulate so much stuff and we don’t know what to do with it all! George Carlin says it best regarding too much stuff! Unless we commit to purging on a regular basis it’ll accumulate fast.
Simplify your life. “Have a limit. Stop shopping. Keep what you love. Use it. Save some money.” Simple words to live buy Missy. Buy? Great, now where do I put those words? Missy!?!?!
