GREEN FOCUS: Cool Things That Are Green
Bicycling in Portland OR4/04/2011Now that we inch closer to dryer warmer weather, bicycling will become more and more of a willing transportation alternative for commuting to work, visiting friends, or exploring different neighborhoods in Portland.
Although a little sketchy at times cruising throughout Portland on two wheels, Portland is very biker friendly. Portland offers free bike maps, the roads are clearly marked for bicyclists, bike boxes are at stop lights, and bicycle signs help with mileage to different neighborhoods and to bridges.
If gas prices are suffocating your checking accounts or your arse has grown an extra inch or two over the winter, dust off the bike and take if for a ride along the waterfront midweek or along the spring water corridor to see if negotiating city streets won't freak you out.
For a more entertaining way to connect with bicycling, the largest bicycle show in Portland will be held on April 9-10 put on by Pedal Nation Events. Check out bicycles, the culture, fashion, and workshops.
