Highlights From Better Living Show 2011

If you were not able to motivate this weekend because of March Madness or some other dreaded family event, you missed out on largest sustainable show in America.  Being that it's free makes it an easy way to spend a couple hours learning about ways to green up your home and lifestyle, taste organic food and drink, and listen to different speakers.

The Better Living Show was this past weekend.  Here are a few highlights it.

Similar to sky lights, Solatube reflects outside sunlight into tight spaces like closets, hallways, and bathrooms.  Easy to instal by a professional, they run up to $700.  But, there is a 10% tax break that won't last long.

If you're looking for bioware utensils, plates, and any kind of bags, Earth Centric has a store in Portland and an online shop.  With plenty of options to meet your needs, they showed off a bag that can hold 45 lbs, and for bioplastic, that's pretty strong.

Eco Athlete, Ovie Mughelli stopped by for the show.  The Atlanta Falcon pro bowl fullback signed autographs and taught kid football and recycling skills.  Planet Green ranked him the #2 Eco Athlete because his foundation provides football training camps to underprivileged kids that includes eco-education talks and activities.  And, yes, I got his autograph!

Believe it or not, good weather is in the near future in Portland.  So, it could be a good time to fix up the ol' deck for summer bbq's and good times.  Timber Pro UV, also a Portland company, has a variety of wood finishes that will restore your deck to looking practically new.  The given photo shows the quality of their product with wood from before, stripped, and then stained.
