GREEN FOCUS: Cool Things That Are Green
Oregon Green News You May Have Missed 4.19.10 to 4.23.104/26/2010 Just a handful of ‘green’ news from the past week you may find yourself going hhmmm.
4/21/10 :: Cash For Caulkers is kind of, but not really like Cash For Clunkers that the Fed did last year. Cash For Caulkers is mullah being put back into the economy to help make homes more energy efficient. The city of Portland has a pilot program right now called Clean Energy Works. This program is helping 500 qualified homes get upgraded with insulation, installation, and financing help for home energy improvements. Good ol’ Unky Sam just gave Oregon an additional $20 million to make Clean Energy Works statewide.
4/19/10 :: Oregon’s first bottle and can redemption center is opening in Wood Village by the end of July on NE Halsey St. Three nearby grocery stores will no longer be dealing with the bottle bill returns. The new center is a pilot project. For the regular American Joe 6-pack, 200 containers a day can be brought in for refund. For those with an account, it’s unlimited. Speed and convenience at the center. Less mess and smell at the grocery store.
4/19/10 :: This bit of news caught my eye because I recently did the River View Cemetery bicycle route to visit mi familia in Lake Oswego from downtown. Along the way, I got a bit confused and ended up dealing with Taylors Ferry Rd...not fun. The safer and more scenic route for this adventure isn’t labeled for biking. With the growing popularity and possibility for accidents, River View Cemetery is fundraising $5,000 to properly sign and mark the bicycle route. The most notable part is the generosity of Lewis and Clark College to match 4 to 1 for each dollar raised for the project.
