Oregon Green News You May Have Missed Last Week

In our regular search of Oregon news that is green oriented, here are a few that caught our eye this past week as news you may have missed.

3/16/10  ::  We’re #1.  We’re #1.  We’re #1 in carbon storage.  Or, at least the Willamette forest is.  The Wilderness Society environmental group ranked the top federally owned forests regarding carbon storage and found that the top 10 for carbon storage are all in the Pacific Northwest.

3/17/10  ::  A good day in the green political world for Portlanders.  Council gave the okay to test pilot the residential food scrap program for 2,000 Portland area households AND gave a unanimous thumbs up for the $20 million big pipe money for Portland green streets and bike boulevards.  Both of these will lead to additional or higher costs.  Perhaps with new bike boulevards the couple bucks added per month will offset savings in gas.

3/17/10  ::  Gov. Kulongoski  is joined by 29 other governors across the U.S. of A. in the Governors Wind Energy Coalition.  This bipartisan group is pushing to stimulate the wind energy industry by creating a national renewable electricity standard.  A few priorities are: smart grid, expanding coastal wind farm research, and extending grants.  Numero uno in wind production, Texas, hasn’t joined the group.
