GREEN FOCUS: Cool Things That Are Green
Oregon Green News You May Have Missed 2.22.10 to 2.26.103/01/2010 In our regular search of Oregon news that is green oriented, here are a few that caught our eye this past week as news you may have missed.
2/26/10 : A home in North Portland’s Kenton neighborhood had a bald eagle smash into it. The impact was so strong that it shook Kat Merck’s home. Baldy, so affectionately named by me, was either injured or has a natural pimp limp. It hobbled to the neighbor’s backyard and disappeared. It either flew away and found a place to die or is being teased by other bald eagles. I’d like to think I saw him soaring above me in Lake Oswego on Sunday.
2/24/10 : Portland’s D-League soccer team, the Timbers are now sponsored by SolarWorld, Oregon’s largest solar manufacturer. The Germany based company is now involved in soccer on three continents. Now that the players are outfitted by a renewables company, I wonder if their uniforms will be sustainably made?
2/25/10 : I’ve been known to eat Dorrito’s Nacho Cheese chips by the handful and start campfires with them since they ignite like pine needles. But, arguably the best chip out there is the Sea Salt & Balsamic Vinegar Kettle Chips. The salty and tangy is so good. Plus, the Salem, Oregon company is a sustainably ethical business from their solar rooftop, green building, and their biodiesel vehicle fleet. They are also sustainable in the business sense. Kettle Foods just sold for $615 million to Diamond Foods, the maker of Pop Secret and Emerald Nuts.
2/22/10 : Portland’s leadership on streetcars and transit-oriented development is being studied and learned from nationally. That’s why last week Mayor Sam Adams traveled to the nations capital, Washington D.C., to attend the Streetcar Summit round-table discussion hosted by the Community Streetcar Coalition. Mayor Jack Hoffman of Lake Oswego, which is planning a streetcar line from its downtown to the South Waterfront area joined Mayor Adams. I wonder if they took the MAX to the airport?
