GREEN FOCUS: Cool Things That Are Green

Portland News You Mave Have Missed 1.10.10 to 1.16.10
1/18/2010

In our regular search of Oregon news that is green oriented, here are a few that caught our eye this past week as news you may have missed.

1/11/10  :  City of Tualatin purchased nearly 3.5 acres along the Tualatin River Greenway that is immediately west of Jurgens Park and includes 235 feet of river frontage.  The goal is to create a trail along the river that is integrated into Jurgens Park.  “As Washington County's only river, the Tualatin is an important resource to the region and home to an abundance of fish and wildlife, including steelhead and salmon, Western painted turtles and Northern red-legged frogs.”

1/12/10  :
TriMet ridership numbers for your fancy.  7.6 million trips taken by TriMet buses, MAX and WES in December, which is down 6.5 percent from December 2008.  However, the Green Line on the MAX helped to increase total ridership.  Like everything right now, this can be blamed on the economy.

1/13/10  :  Average wages were on the rise in 4 of 6 Oregon counties!  in this economy?  US Bureau of Labor Statistics says that during the second quarter, the average worker in Multnomah County earned $868 per week.  The other four counties that had a wage increase were Marion County, Lane County, and Jackson County.

1/13/10  :  Oregon Coast Aquarium is working on saving an 11 year old Northern sea otter in the first ever surgery to “marsupialize the bladder.”  Meaning, the bladder will be connected to the abdominal wall.  The problem is that Aialik, the otter, can’t pee.
