GREEN FOCUS: Cool Things That Are Green
Oregon News You May Have Missed 12.14.09 to 12.19.0912/21/2009In our daily search of Oregon news that is green oriented, only a few caught our eye this past week as something interesting to pass along as news you may have missed.
12/14/09 : Thanksgiving’s water boil alert for 24 hours due to e-coli made me thankful to have drinking water at my disposal anytime. It’s a natural resource that causes war in foreign countries and water will become more of a commodity in ours as time moves along. With all that said the luxury of having fresh water in Portland has been ranked based upon it purity. The non-profit, Environmental Working Group ranks Portland water 59th out of 100 American cities. The best water coming from Arlington, Texas and the worst from Pensacola, Florida.
12/16/09 : Oregon Senator Ron Wyden introduced a bill that would protect Oregon old growth trees while promoting forest thinning. This bill has been to great delight for both the timber executives and environmentalists. Thinning 8.3 million acres of U.S. Forest Service land east of the Cascades will help an ailing Oregon timber industry and will make for a healthier forest. Sen. Wyden happens to be the chairman of the Public Lands and Forests subcommittee, so passage of the bill is likely. I think there is a metaphor here to be exposed. All parties associated with the bill, government, timber executives, and environmentalists will be able to see the trees from the forest allowing for future successful conservation work and job creation across the United States. Both of which are greatly needed.
How 'bout a thumbs up? This will help spread this article to millions of others.
