11/10/09 : Yeeehaw, Black Gold, Texas Tea! A reference for the wealth found in oil in them tharn wells. Whoop whoop, Crystal Green! The name for an environmentally friendly slow-release fertilizer from Clean Water Services, a Durham sewage treatment plant. The treatment plant removes phosphorus and ammonia from wastewater and turns it into a sellable fertilizer that has saved the plant $100,000 in operating costs and reduced bio-solid waste by 260 tons, which is 12%. Two plants on the East Coast will open soon using Oregon equipment to get mad scientist with Crystal Green.

11/12/09 : Cute little delicate Snowy Plover. It’s just a little shorebird that happens to be listed as threatened on state and federal endangered species acts. In 1990, biologists estimated there were only 50 adult snowy plovers on Oregon beaches. Today, as in between April and September, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife counted between 201-208 birds. Their goal is 250 snowy plovers. Recovery efforts focused on removing invasive beachgreass, removing places for predators to hide, and creating native open dry-sand areas. It was a group effort. All you dog walkers using leashes helped to.

11/8/09 : No, said Gresham to broadening their backyard chickens law. Now it’s Beaverton’s turn to change city code so residents can have feathered pets that produce fresh eggs, fertilizer, and will eat harmful bugs in your garden. Keeping 4 birds in backyards is going to Beaverton’s City Council early next year. Birds? Yes, that could include chickens and ducks.
