Project Grow Celebrates the Years Harvest

Project Grow, an art and yoga non-profit organization for adults with developmental disabilities in North Portland, is celebrating the harvest and launching a discussion series to be held monthly on Friday the 25th of September.

The community, from near and far, is invited to join in on an evening of music, art, film, and discussions on urban farming. The event will be from 6 P.M. to 11 P.M. and will take place on the beautiful Project Grow farm behind 2124 N. Williams Avenue. The event is free but donations are welcome.

The Harvest Festival will be a time for community members from all over Portland and beyond to come enjoy the beauty of the chemical-free farm, the bounty of the harvest, visit the art studio, enjoy live music by local bands and participate in a panel discussion on issues of urban farming.

Brainstorm and Jeffrey Jerusalem will provide music for the event.  The discussion panel is made up of four distinguished members of the Portland Community, Linda Colwell, Dan McClary, Tim Donovan, and Ryan Pierce.  Linda Colwell is a classically trained chef, slow food activist, garden advocate, and author. Dan McClary is an exhibiting artist and creator attending Project Grow, regularly tending to the farm and caring for the animals. Tim Donovan is the farmer, nurseryman, and maker who turned the former vacant lot and brown zone behind Port City Development Center in inner North Portland into the successful Project Grow micro CSA (community supported agriculture).  Round up the panel is Ryan Pierce, a writer, teacher at the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and a visual artist exhibiting his paintings and sculptures internationally.

The community is invited to celebrate the richness of the harvest and ponder  issues  related to urban farming with distinguished community members at Project Grow’s Harvest Festival.  The event is sponsored by Widmer Brewing Company, Great Wine Buys, Alberta Co-op, Trader Joe’s, and New Seasons Market.
