50,000 SQ Feet of Mural

The NATIONS LARGEST outdoor painted mural is being painted right here in Portland!  50,000 square feet of the Wilhelm’s Portland Memorial and Mausoleum will be painted featuring only local environmental flora and fauna.  However, I’ve included the picture from the article of the proposed mural design, and it looks to be of 2 people holding a picture.  I don’t see much flora and fauna…

The article goes on to mention that we should also find many of the animals found in and around Portland such as the infamous humans holding a picture, beaver, egrets, red-tailed hawk (my favorite), osprey (also my favorite), wood ducks, and the American widgeion.

For those wondering what will happen to the great blue heron that is currently painted on the wall, put your worries aside as she “will be retouched by painters, and will become an integral part of the scene,” says Dave Schroeder, Vice President of Portland Memorial. 

So how long will it take to paint 50,000 square feet?  About a month or so.  November 3rd is the proposed finish date.

I’ve seen a handful of murals in my days traveling.  I’ve included 1 for your enjoyment from when I’ve had my camera handy in Maui.
