GREEN FOCUS: Cool Things That Are Green
Portland to Seattle Amtrack Gets $6 Million 10/02/2008The train from Portland to Seattle just got speedier. The article states that “Federal officials awarded [Amtrak] $6 million to the Point Defiance Bypass Project, which is intended to reroute Amtrak service near Tacoma. The new route would avoid a tunnel and a congested area near the Port of Tacoma”.
Originally, I was thinking that it would shed about an hour off the trip making Seattle that much more accessible. Nope, try about 6 minutes!
For $1 million dollars a minute in saved time, travelers now have plenty of time to get a snack before your meeting or a beer before the kickoff of the Seahawks game.
State and local money in Washington will match the $6 million grant. “The money will pay for preliminary engineering, environmental review and right of way acquisition for a 1.2 mile D Street to M Street segment [in Washington].”
