In our regular search of Oregon news that is green oriented, here are a few that caught our eye this past week as news you may have missed.

2/1/10  :  Plastic bags may be a thing of the past in Oregon grocery stores thanks to Senator Mark Hass, who drafted a bill to ban plastic grocery bags.  These bags are extremely detrimental on the environment in that they are regularly littered and don’t biodegrade, but rather break down into smaller and smaller bits that make their way into our ecosystem.  Both the house and more...

  A Pioneer in Sustainable Event Planning

She is an unsung hero in local sustainable event planning.  She helped pioneer the first successful recycling and composting program at large scale city events like The Bite of Oregon and Race for the Cure.

Lindsey’s work has worked.

The Bite of Oregon saw a 22% waste reduction from recycling in 2006 to a 65% waste reduction by including composting in 2008.

Her work doesn’t stop there.  Lindsey Newkirk has also managed onsite sustainable efforts for the 2008 Track ‘n Field trials and was part of the pre-planning committee for sustainable efforts at the 2009 World Track ‘n Field Trials in Eugene.
